Regional Law Enforcement Academy

Training the Next Generation of Law Enforcement Professionals

The Blount County Sheriff’s Office is proud to host the Basic Regional Law Enforcement Academy, an intensive 12-week training program that began in September 2007. Approved by the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission for Tennessee, our academy provides recruits with the essential skills and knowledge needed to excel in their law enforcement careers.

Comprehensive Training Curriculum

Our academy offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to cover all critical aspects of law enforcement. The training includes:

  • Basic Police Tactics: Fundamental techniques and strategies used in everyday policing.
  • Criminal Justice: An overview of the criminal justice system and its components.
  • Defensive Tactics: Techniques for self-defense and subduing suspects.
  • DUI: Procedures for handling driving under the influence cases.
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations: Training in the safe and effective operation of police vehicles during emergencies.
  • Firearms: Proper handling, safety, and marksmanship with firearms.
  • Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC): Medical response techniques for treating injuries in high-risk situations.
  • Report Writing: Skills for writing clear and concise incident reports.
  • Traffic Accident Reconstruction: Techniques for investigating and reconstructing traffic accidents.
  • Domestic Violence: Handling and investigating domestic violence incidents.
  • Law Enforcement Stress: Managing stress and maintaining mental health in a law enforcement career.
  • Criminal & Constitutional Law: Understanding the legal framework governing law enforcement actions.
  • ALERRT (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training): Preparing for active shooter and other high-threat situations.
  • Radar Certification: Training in the use of radar for traffic speed enforcement.
  • Traffic Stops: Conducting safe and effective traffic stops.
  • Patrol Interviewing: Techniques for interviewing individuals during patrol duties.
  • Other Related Law Enforcement Topics: A broad range of additional subjects relevant to modern policing.

Applications and Enrollment

The Blount County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the 12-week Basic Regional Law Enforcement Training Academy. This rigorous program is designed for recruits who are sponsored by a law enforcement agency, as private pay applications are not accepted.

How to Apply

To apply, please ensure you meet the following requirements:

  • Sponsorship: Applicants must be sponsored by a law enforcement agency.
  • Eligibility: Applicants must meet all eligibility criteria set forth by the sponsoring agency and the Blount County Sheriff’s Office.
