Adult Corrections

The Blount County Adult Detention Facility is certified for 350 inmates, but for the past several years, the facility has seen substantial more than that. In 2019, corrections officers booked in 6,379 inmates. The growing inmate population is a trend not just in Blount County, but across the United Sates.

The Blount County Corrections Partership was formed in, and they continue to study the situation to find a solution to the problem. Inmates housed at the facility are from every corner of Tennessee. Blount County also contracts with the Tennessee Department of Corrections and the U.S. Marshals Service, however, due to overcrowding, the number of these inmates has steadily decreased over the past few years. The facility also houses prisoners from other agencies outside of Blount County.

Two (2) full-time P.O.S.T. certified jail investigators are assigned to investigate incidents that occur in the detention facility, as well as gathers intelligence. All corrections officers receive 40 hours of in-service training each year at the training facility.
