Blount County Sheriff's Office, Fire Department to hold child safety seat clinic
Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong and Blount County Fire Chief Doug McClanahan announced the two agencies will conduct a joint child safety seat clinic Saturday, August 29th.
The clinic is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Blount County Fire Department located at 2565 East Broadway Avenue, Maryville. Trained and certified child passenger safety seat technicians will be on hand to provide child car seat installation. The clinic is an opportunity to make sure the child safety seat fit their vehicle, their child, and are safely and securely anchored in the vehicle.
Motor vehicle collisions are the leading cause of death for children ages 2 to 14. Nationwide, nearly 1.5 million children are passengers in vehicle crashes each year. Studies prove child safety seats reduce the likelihood of infants (under one year) being killed in a vehicle crash by 71 percent and toddlers (one to four years old) by 54 percent.
